There is no simple answer to this, but my own experience shows that you can see some traffic within 7 days, and if you do everything right, your traffic would grow fast in every 7 days.
The biggest problem for new sites is that they are not trusted by Google. There are 2 ways to counter this problem:
1. Get at least 100 blog comments from authority blogs in your niche, if you can't find that many, find PR 6 and above authority blogs and post comments on them. Preferably, you should find blogs with a direct PR 6 and above or domain PR 6 with page PR 1 would give you similar effect, but requires a lot more links, may be 500 blog comments.
2. The second way is much easier, buy a 2 year old domain with at least PR3 or greater - Although the higher the better, domains that are PR 5 and above just cost too much!
You should go after domains that are listed with DMOZ and Yahoo directory, but this is not required in most cases. After acquiring the domain, do a 301 redirect or just use your domain provider's URL forward feature (Note: you must select 301 forward) to redirect this domain to your new domain!
The idea here is not to get the link juice, but rather the trust rank from this domain.
